|
...from a question asked in ~ Pineapple Knots ~:
| Quote: | | What are we calling a pineapple knot - Sidney Wood |
hello Sidney...
...here is what i think.....sort of :
Pineapple Knot: ...any interwoven turk's head(s!) knot - "...with "certain exceptions"?!"
~...there are hundreds/(thousands!) of these knots
Pineapple Knot Interweave: ...a knot that isn't a real pineapple
knot but looks like a pineapple knot...(Pineapple Knot Interweave
also means the actual weave in a real pineapple knot!...(..all braiders
know this!))
Close Cousin of a Pineapple Knot: ...dozens of these!!...almost
a pineapple knot but just "not quite"!!...
Heel Knot: ...any knot (mostly pineapple knots!) that will work as
the "heel" of a bosal...
Pineapple Knot "types": ...i know of:
""type 1" pineapple knots"
""type 2" pineapple knots"
""type 3" pineapple knots"
""type 4" pineapple knots"
...and pineapple knots made from:
"narrow" turk's head knots
"square" turk's head knots
"long" turk's head knots
...i know only a little bit about: (from: Introduction to Turk's-Head Knots)
"both row-coded and column coded" knots
"neither row-coded nor column-coded" knots
"row-coded" knots
"column-coded" knots
...and weave patterns: (from: Introduction to Turk's-Head Knots)
Casa
Checkered
Herringbone
Gaucho
Headhunter's
Ring
Fan
...i know just a little bit about
"o-u-o-u-o-u" diagrams
o-u-o-u-o-u-o-u
...and very little about
algorithm diagrams
1 2 3 0 1 2
\ / \ / \ /
21 03 21
...i would call the top knot a "type 3 - 4 pass "pineapple knot" (from a 7x6 turk's head knot)"- twisty braid - footrope knot with "pineapple knot interweave"...(the footrope knot with "pineapple knot interweave" might be considered a "close cousin of a pineapple knot")...
...i would call the top knot a "type 1 - 3 pass "pineapple knot" (from a 7x6 turk's head knot)"...i would call the bottom knot a "type 3 - 4 pass "pineapple knot" (from a 7x6 turk's head knot)"...
...i would call this knot a "type 1 - 3 pass "pineapple knot" (from a 7x6 turk's head knot)"...
...here is the website for all of the above Heel Knots:

| Quote: | If we are willing to use Tom Hall's definition of a pineapple knot in the general sense that it is a cylindrical braid of two ore more passes with the bight boundaries nested, I have found that any two odd part simple turksheads that differ by two parts and neither violates the common divisor rule can be interwoven by a technique similar to raising turksheads by two parts and bights. This is a matter of laying a parallel pair and splitting it. As soon as I figure out how to post graphics to this board I will try to explain this, (as soon as I get the neighbors cows back home and the fence put back up)

hello Sidney...
....the definitions in the books by Tom Hall, Bruce Grant, Robert Woolery and Gail Hought. etc..are sometimes a little vague ...especially for someone new to these types of knots!!...(~ !...every word i wrote in bold could probably use an "official description")...but either it's a pineapple knot or it's not??!...maybe we can figure some of this stuff out?!....maybe we need a committee to figure these things out??!
....i made a new topic for you to put a photo in......((it might be best to put in just one or two photos with a link to your main photo album??!....etc..))
...i'll put in the first photo and the link to the Knotical Photo Albums site....

~ Beautiful Pineapple Knots! ~
...these knots are by Frans Masurel - Netherlands
...you can clearly see the different types and
variations...different row/column codings...narrow,
square and long...weave patterns....there
are dozens/hundreds of different pineapple knots!!....and
not much information to find anywhere about most of them!...
...lots of work to do!...

...are the "Odilia Knot" and the "Lida Knot" pineapple
knots...or just close cousins to a pineapple knot
[knots by Pieter van de Griend - Netherlands]

...is the "Margaret Knot" a pineapple
knot...or just close cousin to a pineapple knot

| Quote: | After looking at all the pictures I have concluded that
these knots are all permutations of the herringbone coding. There are some interesting views of herringbones in the two latest Ron Edwards books. Advancd leather work vols 1 & 2. If you would like to see how I do them go to taylortel.net/~stwood . (Iknow that is an ugly url but it's free and easy to use.
