Found bag of old net tying tools include several net mending needles and marlin spikes...ID these on internet. There are also a dozen or so wooden blocks approximately 1" by 4" with one rounded edge and the other beveled to sharp edge. They fit comfortably into the palm of your hand. Can anyone tell me what these were used for and if they have a name? I assume they are some type of netting tool.

Hello fishnfowl and welcome to the forum.
Those are gauges used in net making.  In net making the twine is wrapped arpond the gauge to form a new mesh.  The gauge determines the size of the mesh and keeps them uniform in size.  A gauge that fits comfortably in the palm of the hand is ideal.  An ill fitting, sharp cornered gauge soon causes blisters or other discomforts.  Take a look at the "Nets and Net Making" section of this forum to see the net making process.
Other names - I guess it depends on local custom:
"Mesh stick", "mesh spool", "spool" or just "mesh".  (from "Netmaking" by P. W. Blanford).      Tony

Thanks for the information. Plan to put tools in old painted sea chest in our collection. There is bias canvas bag and the cover toolbox built inside.

Hi fishnfowl and welcome to the forum! Really cool find. Do you know what ship is in the painting inside your beautiful sea chest? We'd love to see a better pic of it, and the old beckets as well.

Tried to photograph all the details. Everything was found with the chest years ago at a flea ,market...$300. Even though we don't collect maritime artifacts, I have always loved this piece because of its age and great patina

The bag is made up of heavy canvas strips cut on bias and sewn together with knotted handle. The tool box built inside has another pull out drawer below it. You can view details images at this link
