Monkey Fist Jig
OK, I will go.  Here is a bent bit of clothes hanger. Size it to the diameter of the core you are covering.  MUCH easier than tying around your fingers and less cord required (I have fat fingers).  Tony

I make much, perhaps even most of my tools myself. (After all, I have material, equipment and know how - why shouldn´t I?)

I will post more pics later, but begin with these two:

Here's a new simple spike that I made of high speed steel and cocobolo wood.

Here is a combo favorite of mine. It is one part fid, part two is gripfid and third part threaded needle.
The metal work was done by a very professional friend and the other work was done by me.

Don't shred those expired credit cards!

You can usually get up to 1 1/8" (40 mm) of usable material out of most US credit cards.

For me... they are the perfect length and very durable, flexible and quite  comfortable in the hand if you round the corners.

Use a good straight edge and a razor blade to score a line and then bend and snap the card along the scored line, trim the 2 sharp corners with nail clippers and use your wife's emery board (if your brave, sand paper if your smart) to lightly sand the cut edge.

I really like the idea of the credit card net gauge.  My gauges are wood and at least twice as thick as a credit card.  The cards are the ideal length also.  Thanks.  Tony
