Matt, my 8-year old grandson showing the first knot he designed and tied all on his own.  Looks like he got the tying bug.

A closer look at Matt's first.

Another closer look.

The next time I get out to see him, I am going to bring some #550 parachute cord with me, and teach him how to tie a portugese sinnit which seems to be the basis for most bracelets.  Once he masters that, he will be able to let his mind wander and create his own designs or even better, he will be able to follow directions to making all sorts of different portugese sennit based items.  That should be fun for him... and fun for me to teach him.
