I have posted this before on another forum , however here is additional information , so Im reposting this one.... This Globe Knot is a 88 facet , page 138 of the globe cookbook. Using about 20 ft. of 1.8 mm cord and 3 passes to cover this Wine Cork.Could have possibly used a fourth pass . The wine cork is larger than the standard size , I inceased it to 1 1/2 inches total length. I made this , in hopes of using it as a boat key float, further testing showed a neg result with the key I have. So I have ordered larger cork balls , slightly larger than the ping pong ball. and will retie and test .

Hi Curt,

Look into Styrofoam balls, or other shapes that maybe you might just cut yourself. Find some at the "hobby stores" and they have a high buoyancy rate.

Nice work btw.

Hi , SS369
I did try the Styrofoam , but the ball would squash a bit and flake, in the last part of tightening and stitching . Which left the cord a bit loose                                             Curt , Wooly Whiskers

I have had some success with coating the foam with a hardening agent such as "Mod Podge" using a couple of coats and then covering it. This product is also suitable for covering the knot as well. It dries clear and only barely changes the hue of the cord, almost imperceptible.
Hobby stores or the big chain stores generally carry it.
