Sewn bolster?

On the last couple of whips I have experimented with sewing the bolster (= the layer of leather on top of the braided belly) instead of just wrapping it into place.

The sewing is more work, naturally, but I feel that it gives the bolster a smoother fit, makes is stay in place more securely, and perhaps most important it closes really tight around the material inside, making the whip firmer and harder.

At least that is my experience so far. Has anyone else tried this?
