How Do All Wink

I just want to share with you all my Hybrid Netted Mayan Hammock (prototype #1). "Lincolns Hammock"
This is a cross between a Woven Mayan Hammock and a Net hammock, I made this hammock as a surprise gift for a friend, you can see more pictures and read about it on my website:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ropeandcanvas/page6.html

I have a new version of this style I have just finished which is twice as wide and  has a few tweaks, but I still have to get photos of it yet as soon as I get them sorted I will add them here too, now to start making the third and final finished version  Mr. Green

I hope you like?
BTW: if some of the content on my web site seems mixed up (I have been updating:bangyourhead: ) try pressing the Ctrl and F5 buttons for a hard refresh which will sort out the problem.

Take care,
Barry Wink

I love your hybrid hammock design.  No spreader bars to get in the way and lying across the body of the hammock as in the Mayan design.  Tony

How Do Tony Wink

Thanks for your kind comments, much appreciated.

this is something I had been working on for quite a while, it is much harder to make the Hybrid net version work properly as the hammock wants to shorten in the middle when it is stretched out sideways and the diamonds of the mesh open out,
in a woven Mayan hammock there are so may lines woven in to the width of the body that shortening is not  a problem, this is one of the reasons that my second prototype is twice as wide in the body.

The third on is just having some minor tweaks made to the design. I will keep you posted.

Take care,
Barry Wink

Barry ~ this is a gorgeous piece of work.  For us curious, did you happen to keep track of:

1) how long it took to make
2) how many feet/metre's of cord were used
3) The number of knots Smile

I can only imagine....

How Do Brian Wink

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated.

Your Questions;
1) how long it took to make
A) A long time? over 50 hours, I did not really take much notice. I made it over two weeks

2) how many feet/metre's of cord were used
A) where's my tape rule  Confused who knows dude, 3 or 4 spools of twine about.

3) The number of knots Smile
A) Around 2900 give or take a few

the second prototype (no pictures yet , maybe this weekend) took double all of the above.

Take care,
Barry Wink

Smile

ok, maybe I shouldn't have asked how many knots were in the hammock, I guess that was a bit silly.

I ordered some needles and mesh sticks yesterday and have been having fun with my improvised tools so far.  I've made several bags to practice the netting knot and joining threads, changing colors, etc.

Steven's book, Tony's instructions and your KM103 article have all been very helpful.

I have 2 plum trees in my back yard which are screaming for a hammock to be hung between them.  I'm going to start though with a couple of mesh bags for our pantry to store onions and potatoes.

Cheers!

(can't wait for pics of the 2nd prototype)
