4 strand braid with no free ends

I'm sure everyone has seen the three strand braid with no free ends, AKA a Scout's "woggle."

Question is: can it be done with four strands? Any ideas how?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum
Besides the 3 strand I have seen a 7 strand closed end braid

as well as a 5 strand

Perhaps a 4 strand is mathematically not possible.  Tony

Had quite good suces with that right up until fig. 9. I've tried passing the bottom between strands c and d at seveal "heights (for what of a better expression). No straightening.
Anyone tried this? It's quite clear that there's a bundle of stands below the point at which the correct place is, but I'm jiggered if I can figure out just how much of the mess I'm to go above!

KDM,
Sorry.  It has been years since I did this.  Can offer no clues..  It looks like the bottom passes above all five strands, between C and D.  Push the mess above this point towards the top to make the opening you need.
I know the YouTube clip below is for 3 strand but the teacher keeps the braid tight at the top to make the opening to go through obvious.  Perhaps tightening the braid tighter at the top will help.
Wish I could offer more.  There is a section on braiding a little further down in this forum.  Maybe you can get some leads at one of the braiding sites.  Tony

It has exactly the same flaw as the other tutorials (althoguht the pictures are more clear than teh sketches).

I'm fine with the "five strands means you do five plaits, then untwist" rule. I'm OKay until photo 8. Suddenly, he switches from clear English to "Continuation of the unbraiding, which has completed in this picture." I don't even understand the syntax emploted here!

I THINK we're supposed to see that photo 8 doesn't constitute a step, but that it's what the braid looks like after photo 7 has been completed. But, it sort of looks like he's telling us to make the twist through the braid a second time.

I'll give this one a go when I get home.

I just saw this tonight and thought it might help. Download (free) and go to page 48, then to pg 52 for the 5 plait braid.

And here at page 12.
